How to: Modify the EmployeeFileBuilder Database
EmployeeFileBuilder uses a Microsoft Access 2.0 database. If you open the database into a newer version of Access (95 or 97), you will convert the database to the new format and it will no longer work with the EmployeeFileBuilder program. Please be sure that you are using Microsoft Access 2.0 in order to modify the database structure.
To open the employee.mdb database into Microsoft Access, you must edit the .INI file for Access.
Launch Microsoft Access. Access will prompt you for a user name and password. To obtain the password, please email your request to tech@jianusa.com, OR fax your request to JIAN on your letter head. The fax number is 650-254-5640. Be sure to name the person who will be responsible for safeguarding the password so we can send the fax with it directly to him/her.
The only databases that have been protected in this manner are the 2 included with EmployeeFileBuilder. If you create a new database using EmployeeFileBuilder, it will not be protected under this user name and password. If you would like to protect a database that you created, please consult the documentation for Microsoft Access.
Opening the Hood Voids the Warranty
Modifying the databases in Microsoft Access means that you are modifying the product that JIAN created. Any unintended changes that are made cannot be corrected by JIAN Product Support. (But there are lots Access gurus around, you will need to grab one and have them do the tweaking for you.)
